Loon Mountain is a Top Pick for a Winter Family Vacation in New Hampshire's White Mountains

Lincoln, NH - New Hampshire's Loon Mountain is a terrific New England winter vacation destination for families of all ages. The ease of online reservations for lodging, kids programs, lift tickets, lessons and rental equipment, plus the easy access to the resort, planning a family ski vacation has never been easier.

Here are the ten ways to make a Loon Mountain vacation memorable:

  1. Save time! Book online before leaving home. Reserve accommodations, lessons, lift tickets and rentals for the whole family at www.loonmtn.com. To save time at drop-off for children's programs, parents can download pdfs of registration forms and questionnaires. Descriptions of all children's programs can be found at http://www.loonmtn.com/info/winter/children.asp.

  2. Leave the car and take the bus. The blue Loon Mountain shuttle buses make it convenient and easy to get to and from the mountain and serve all the major hotels and condos in Lincoln. Guests can wear their ski or snowboard boots on the shuttle bus, too, so parents do not need to carry an extra bag to the mountain. Shuttles start one half-hour before lifts open and stop one half-hour after the lifts close.

  3. Take the train - a family favorite at Loon since the resort opened in 1966. The J.E. Henry steam-powered locomotive transports guests back and forth between the Governor's Lodge and the Octagon Lodge. Many long-time Loon skiers have fond memories of their first train ride at Loon Mountain.

  4. Sign up for a family private lesson. Loon's customized 3-hour private lesson allows up to 5 people to be part of each lesson. Parents can learn tips on coaching their kids, improve their own skills and explore family-friendly terrain.

  5. Follow the bear claws. A green-circle trail from the top of the Gondola at Loon's summit, Bear Claw has easy-to-spot claw marks on the trees all the way down the trail. Kids love to ski down to the next claw marker while they wait for their parents to catch up.

  6. Race against each other on Loon's NASTAR Race Course. Take the Seven Brothers Triple Chair to Race City, where an easy double-gate recreational race course awaits. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded. Recreational racing is available on weekends and holidays.

  7. Have a family photo taken against the backdrop of Mt. Washington and other White Mountains. Look for the photographers from Mellonhead Photo at the top of the Gondola, North Peak Quad and Kancamagus Quad. View and order photos at http://www.mellonhead.com.

  8. Visit the Adventure Center. Located in the base area, across from the Main Parking Lot, the Adventure Center awaits with its 25-foot indoor climbing wall, and outdoor ice skating rink. Rent a pair of snowshoes or cross-country skis and explore over 25 km of trails adjacent to the slopes of Loon. A free shuttle bus drops off and picks up guests at trails access points.

  9. Relax by the pool. The Viaggio Spa and Health Club, located slopeside at the Mountain Club on Loon has an indoor pool, plus hot tub, saunas, steamroom and fitness facilities. Many accommodation choices in the Loon area also feature indoor pool facilities.

  10. Hit the slopes on a snow tube. Lift-served snow tubing is available daily from 10 AM to 9 PM, weather permitting. Guests must be 8 years old and at least 48 inches tall. Walk-up tubing is available for younger kids. The Tubing Center is located at the base of the Little Sister Chairlift, slopeside of the Octagon Lodge.
  11.

The Loon Mountain area offers a variety of lodging from quaint B&Bs to slopeside condominiums. Ski and stay packages are easy to find and book at www.loonmtn.com
