National Brotherhood of Skiers – Eastern Region’s
Winterfest 2007 Concludes at Loon Mountain
LINCOLN, N.H. – Approximately 250 skiers, riders and winter enthusiasts from across the nation will return home today, after a fun-filled four days at the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS) – Eastern Region’s Winterfest 2007. New Hampshire’s Loon Mountain served as the host site for the organization’s ski season wrap-up event, which began on March 21, 2007 and concludes today.
“We’ve had a great time skiing and riding the slopes in New Hampshire. Loon Mountain has been a great host for Winterfest 2007,” said Dwayne Wilkins, NBS-Eastern Region Vice President.
“A lot of hard work by the Loon Mountain team, the surrounding Lincoln and Woodstock communities, our Winterfest team and NBS Club Trip Leaders has helped us deliver an enjoyable event for our members. Winterfest 2007 will definitely be remembered as a great wrap up to what’s been a fantastic slope season,” added Wilkins.
The NBS-Eastern Region Winterfest is an annual event. Each year, club members attend the event which includes ski and riding, adult and youth racing (alpine and cross country), social events and a number of other enjoyable activities. Winterfest is organized by a team of hard-working and dedicated NBS volunteers. Sheris Williams and Cara Washington served as Chair and Co-Chair of Winterfest 2007, respectively.
“Winterfest is the final trip of the year for most of our clubs. That said, we want our members to end their seasons on a high note,” said Wilkins.
“The NBS-Eastern Region chose Loon because of its diverse offerings on and off the slopes. The mountain’s #1 state ranking, its expansive terrain suitable for all abilities, ski school and children’s programs, ample lodging & meeting space and top-notch customer service were also important factors. As well, the great spring ski conditions and adjacent shopping and dining options have received high marks from our members,” added Wilkins.
“Of equal importance has been the support provided by the mountain and local business community. A number of generous donations will allow us to raise additional funds for the NBS – Eastern Region Scholarship Fund. Those funds will be used to support our organization’s aspiring athletes,” concluded Wilkins.
“It has been a true pleasure hosting the NBS Winterfest,” said Loon Mountain General Manager Rick Kelley. “The weather was great, the snow was great. It was an all around good time. The NBS-Eastern Region will begin next year’s slope season with its popular “Early Season Warm-Up” (EWSU) at Winter Park Colorado. The week-long slope season kickoff event will begin on Saturday, December 1, 2007. More than 500 participants are expected.
