Summary:

The General Manager of Loon Mountain is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to maximize the profitability of the resort and to be the prime motivator of overall resort growth. The General Manager will oversee all operations, development and marketing of Loon Mountain Resort and will report to the corporate team on financial and other performance metrics. The General Manager will also report to the Chief Operating Officer of day ski areas.

To be considered for the position, the candidate must have at least 10 years' experience in ski area management.

Resort Responsibilities:

Resort responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Manages all aspects of the delivery of quality and safe recreational experiences by a motivated team of employees.

Annually updates and communicates the resort business plan for approval including revenue forecasts, annual operating budget, product pricing, and the capital improvement and maintenance budgets.

Annually procures liability and property insurance coverage consistent with Boyne Resort requirements.

Provides point of first contact for insurance representatives, adjustors, and legal counsel relative to risk management files.

Updates and oversees the implementation of all risk management strategies and emergency preparedness programs.

Proactively maintains relationships with community groups and government agencies.

Ensures effective and efficient operations are in place to meet guest service standards and expectations.

Monitors progressive concepts within the snow resort and hospitality industries to ensure that Loon Mountain Resort is appropriately positioned to take advantage of new trends, systems or opportunities.

Strategically plans for resort growth and development.

Direct Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises 8 department heads in resort operations and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Boyne Resorts policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training management team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Experience, Qualifications, Commitments:

The following is a general description of the experience, qualifications or commitments which the General Manager should acknowledge in applying for this position:

- Possess understanding of the complexities of recruiting, training and oversight of 200 - 900 employees in a diverse range of business units including human resources, accounting, IT, marketing, construction, heavy equipment operations and repairs, recreation activity instruction, recreation equipment rentals, retail, first aid, food & beverage and general sales.

- Demonstrated commitment to work a schedule that is driven by the needs of the resort business including a requirement to work additional hours, weekends and holidays as necessary.

- Demonstrated success in a leadership role with excellent interpersonal, communication and motivational skills.

- Possess a successful track record of proficient planning, business, and financial capabilities.

- Basic understanding of snowmaking, grooming and lift operations

- Demonstrated ability to negotiate agreements and contracts to the benefit of the company.

- Understand and protect the brand of the resort

- Proficiency in a full range of business computer applications.

- Understanding of point of sales systems and their operational application.

- Have experience in guest relations including the ability to deal positively with complaints/consumer issues and to diffuse situations which may negatively affect the company.

Education and/or Experience:                     

The successful candidate will possess a combination of educational and work experience to clearly demonstrate the capabilities necessary for the position of General Manager, Loon Mountain Resort.  The candidate must have a minimum of 10 years plus experience of ski resort management.
